StarHopper44 on 21-Jun-2010 15:39:32 GMT about IRAS 19429-0043
I would like to report a possible discrepancy on this object [IRAS 19429-0043], as well as idiosyncracies regarding a plot of several nearby objects.
Re this particular object, which SIMBAD identifies as an infrared source, I have multiple sources which clearly identify this object as a star, with designation TYC 5146-465-1, at the precise RA-Dec coordinates shown for the IRAS identity.
However, a SIMBAD query for TYC 5146-465-1 reports no such object found.
Also;
I made the above discovery while viewing a small asterism of stars centered on coords 19:45.5 -00:40, which the IRAS object was a part of. I ran a 10-arcminute plot of the area, and noted in the provided chart every object shown was indicated as a small red square, which the chart 'key' shows is a "Nebula, PN, SNR".
To my knowledge (and my available reference sources & charts), no Nebula, PN, or SNR's are in this area, and in fact, except for one pulsar which SIMBAD identifies in the plot (also with the 'red square') these are stars, including 3 rather prominent ones with designations HD 186641, HD 186622, & HD 186551. The two principle others are PPM 708008 & PPM 180787, along with the star TYC 5146-465-1 which I questioned above, completing the asterism 'set'.
I have NO idea why the discrepancies in the object symbols are occurring, but thought I should include notification along with reporting the apparent IRAS conflict.
Sincerely yours,
J Faircloth
