OK. I understand the desire to not mix coordinates from Gaia and Hipparcos. But for the record, empirically it is observationally the case that the astrometry of Hipparcos is not better (more accurate) than the Gaia DR3 astrometry.
It sounds like we are in agreement that the coordinates at epoch 2016 differ by 0.7", and unambiguously from those two discrepant values the Gaia ones are more accurate to the on-sky positions observed with JWST in 2022 & 2023. Hopefully the future Gaia DRs may improve bright star handling enough to have an astrometric solution for Alf Pic. And for now this annotation may suffice to note the issue. Thanks.
