The location of this object is incorrect. It should be about 4 arcminutes
WEST
of T Tauri, not north. The position is believed to be approximately at the position of
2MASS J04214315+1930567
and
2MASS J04214353+1931144
.
d'Arrest lists the coordinates of Hind's Nebula (NGC 1555) as (4h14'15.5' +19°12'27") and Struve's Lost Nebula (NGC 1554) as (4h14'0.4" +19°12'13"). This corresponds to a relative position of (04h21'59.4319873992" +19°31'52.43293336" ICRS) if we adjust the aforementioned coordinates of Hind's Nebula to correspond to (04h21'59.4319873992" +19°32'06.432393336" ICRS) which is the position of T Tauri.
d'Arrest reported that his accuracy was ±5 arcseconds, and it was quite small, almost round, with an eccentric core that is approximately that of a star of 14th magnitude. He also specifies that the center of the dec given is the brightest point, and the center of the nebula was further south. He also notes that the possibility of error in right ascension was out of the question due to the nearby stars and observations made by other astronomers.
