LP 731-76 is unrelated to BD-10 3166 ~20" away, i.e. LDS 4041 is a
visual binary, not a physical binary.
Lurie+2014 (2014AJ....148...91L) reports: "we do provide the first
accurate parallax, and conclude that BD-10 3166 is not physically
related to the star with a similar proper motion, LP 731-076, which is
20" away (Bartlett et al. 2014, in preparation)."
Here are reported parallaxes for the components of ** LDS 4041:
BD-10 3166 (K3.0V, V=10.0):
plx = 15.34+-3.08 mas (Lurie+2014),
plx = 11.8187+-0.0491 mas (Gaia DR2)
The inferred Mv (5.4) is bright for a star of its type (1.2 mag above
main sequence), however the star is extremely metal-rich ([Fe/H] =
0.38; Valenti & Fischer 2005) and its Teff (5393+-44 K; Valenti &
Fischer 2005) is typical of ~K0 dwarfs.
LP 731-76 (M5.0V; V=14.5):
plx = 69.1542 +- 0.0850 mas (Gaia DR2).
The inferred Mv (13.7) makes sense for mid-M dwarf with this parallax.
So the individual parallaxes are corroborated by their spectral
information, further strengthening the interpretation that the pair is
a chance alignment.
