GJ 686 was considered a spectral standard of type M0.0V by
2002AJ....123.2002H
, however more recent papers have found it to be later/cooler: M1 (2012ApJ...748...93R; K-band), M1.5 (2013AJ....145..102L), M2 (2014MNRAS.443.2561G). Its V-Ks color (V-Ks=4.05; HIP, 2MASS) is more consistent with M1 standards.
