I retained two possible identifications for CGCS 279, a carbon star with position accuracy 3: Id. A = 2MASSJ01481655+6529559 at r= 1.21' of the quoted position and Id. B = 2MASSJ0140352+6529134 at r= 2.14'. A reasonable fit is obtained for B with an oxygen-rich star, say K1-K3g and E(B-V)=1 or so. But a carbon-rich hot carbon star (HC3.75 with E(B-V)= 0.85) cannot be totally precluded.
The case seems better with A as a slightly cooler CV0.5 carbon star and E(B-V)=0.8 consistent with reddening maps. I thus propose Id. A as CGCS 279 since
a forced M1.5g fit with E(B-V)= 0.84 is not in agreement with the whole available data.
Any remark or suggestion welcome.
