The Mendoza & Johnson (1965) reference quoted for this object should be annoted as follows. The J= 7.26 and K= 6.30 values disagree sharply with
J= 6.322 and K= 5.125 from 2MASS. If that were for variability, it would not have remained NSV 10269 for so many years.
My contention is that the Authors observed BD+09 3580 instead, a K5-star nearly 10 arcmin from HD 166097, with J= 7.245 and K= 6.307 from 2MASS values very close to the above-quoted values.
Also they yield B= 11.56 and V= 10.03 very close to what many catalogs quote
in the visible for BD+09 3580: All Sky of Kharchenko (2001), Tycho (1997, 1998), NOMAD of Zacharias (2005) and Droege+ (2007).
