The current spectral type and literature link for CK 2 are: K4III from
Whittet et al. 2007
. I'm questioning the origin of both the spectral type and the literature link.
Whittet et al 2007 state: "CK2 is classified K4 III (
Knez et al. 2005
)." This means the current link is not correct for the assigned type (K4III). The K4III comes from Knez..,
However,
Knez et al. 2005
state: "Spectral types K4 III, G9 III, and K3 III were adopted for CK 2, Elias 13, and Elias 16, respectively. These values are within the range of types given by
Chiar et al. (1994)
for CK 2"
The range given by
Chiar et al. (1994)
is: K5-M0III based on an actual spectrum compared to giant type templates.
Another spectral typing was done by
Winston et al. 2009
. They record M1+/-1.5 but do not indicate a luminosity class.
So at minimum, the correct citation for K4III is Knez, although that is not an actual spectral typing of CK2.
