Dear Sirs,
we wish to bring to your attention a strong disagreement between some published spectral class assignments about the star HD 154495, possibly due to some mistake not due to Simbad database but to one of the original references.
Some available cross-identification for this star are: HD 154495 = BD +01°3375 = PPM 163508 = AGK 3 +01°1931 = AGK 2 +1°1931 = GSC 00398-01064 = Tycho 398:1064:1
Its spectral class assignment along time is:
G5 according to HD catalogue Cannon & Pickering, 1922 (low dispersion objective prism spectroscopy)
G5 according to Vyssotsky & Balz, 1958 (low dispersion objective prism spectroscopy)
B2 IV according to Houk & Swift, 1999 (low dispersion objective prism spectroscopy)
G0 IV or G5 V according to our spectroscopy, Montigiani, Mannucci, Santangelo, 2018 (moderately high dispersion long-slit spectroscopy).
Please note the fair agreement between the results of our spectroscopy and that of HD catalogue and Leander McCormick catalogue; the only disagreeing spectral class is the one by Houk & Swift.
We continue the spectroscopic follow up of HD 154495 with our 0.35 m telescope and LHires III long-slit CCD spectrograph, but we are not able to detect any peculiarity and confirm a G spectral class.
It seems that Simbad database lists only Houk & Swift 1999 (probably erroneous) spectral class assignment.
We believe there could be some kind of mistake, perhaps a typhographical error on both versions (printed and on-line at CDS) of the 5th volume of Michigan spectral catalogue about HD 154495.
