Although this star has designations "GJ 873 B", "8pc 198.07B", "WDS J22468+4420BC", it is neither a physical companion with the bright star GJ 873 A, nor is it a nearby star. It was not assigned as "B" component by Gliese, but it appears to have been erroneously assigned as "Gl 873 B" by
Oppenheimer+2001
, and it does not appear with this designation anywhere else so far.
The proper motions for this star in multiple catalogs (PPMX, UCAC4, URAT1, UCAC5) show that it has very small proper motion (<0.1"/yr), completely inconsistent with GJ 873 A (~0.8"/yr).
The G0 spectral type (1938BSD...C02....0S) for the star corroborates the idea that this is a background star unrelated to the nearby star GJ 873 A.
The current parallax that is listed is not a trigonometric parallax, but assumes co-motion with GJ 873 A, which is not supported. Thus far, there is no reliable parallax estimate and the parallax should be removed so that it does not continue to appear in queries for nearby stars.
I would add a SIMBAD comment that the star is not a physical companion with GJ 873, and that the designation GJ 873B should be deprecated.
