SIMBAD notes that L 415-82 has often been confused with CpD-41 8405 in the literature. This may have occurred because the high-proper-motion NLTT star, L 415-82, appears to have been erroneously listed in the NLTT Catalog with the coordinates of the low proper-motion-star CpD-41 8405. In SIMBAD, CpD-41 8405 has wrong coordinates and identifiers, and references should be reassigned. L 415-82 has the wrong 2MASS identification.
CpD-41 8405 has UCAC4 J2000 coordinates 17 57 21.372 -41 58 00.07, almost identical to the 1875 CpD epoch J2000 coordinates at 17 57 21.4 -41 58 06. Identifiers with matching coordinates and magnitudes include 2MASS J17572136-4158001, UCAC2 14061585, UCAC3 097-325275, UCAC4 241-147409, DENIS-P J175721.3-415759, and DENIS-P J175721.3-415800. The UCAC proper motions are not accurate.
L 415-82, at UCAC4 J2000 coordinates 17 57 14.230 -41 59 28.64, is 2MASS J17571423-4159290 with listed magnitudes and colors appropriate for this nearby early-M dwarf. The CNS, LTT, and PMSU catalog entries also seem to apply to this star. The CNS entry has the CpD-41 8405 coordinates, but the proper motion and other data match the L 415-82 properties. The PMSU catalog lists spectral type and spectroscopic distance that also match with L 415-82. Additional identifiers are UCAC3 097-325086, UCAC4 241-147331, and DENIS-P J175714.2-415929. New astrometry and photometry have been published by Winters et al. (2017AJ….153…14W).
