Lambda Oph (HR 6149) is known by the proper name "Marfik" (or variant) in several astronomical references:
(1) Ioannis Bayeri Rhainani I.C. (1603), Uranometria.
Augustae Vindelicorum : Excudit Christophorus Mangus ["Marfic" where "f" was long s, pronounced s].
(2) Ludewig Ideler (1809) "Untersuchungen uber den Ursprung und die Bedeutung der Sternnamen: Ein Beytrag zur Geschichte des Gestirnten Himmels", Berlin, Johann Friederich Weiss ["Marfic"].
(3) Admiral Wiliam Henry Smyth (1881) "A Cycle of Celestial Objects" (revised, condensed, and greatly enlarged by George F. Chambers, F.R.A.S of the Inner Temple, Barrister-at-law, 2nd edition, Oxford, Clarendon Press) ["Marfik"].
(4) Richard Hinckley Allen (1899) "Star-names and their meanings" (G.E. Stechert, New York) ["Marfic" or "Marfik", from "Al Marfik" = 'the Elbow'].
(5) William Tyler Olcott (1911) "Star Lore of All Ages" (G.P. Putnum's Sons, NY and London; republished as "Star Lore: Myths, Legends, and Facts", Dover Publications, Inc., Mineola, NY, USA 2004) ["Marfic"].
(6) Helmet Werner & Felix Schmeidler (1986) "Synopsis der Nomenklatur der Fixsterne = Synopsis of the Nomenclature of the Fixed Stars" Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft mbH Stuffgart ["Marfik"].
(7) Dorris Hoffleit & Carlos Jaschek (1991) "The Bright Star Catalogue" (5th edition; Yale University Observatory, New Haven, CT, USA) ["Marfik"; also "Marfic", "Marsic"].
(8) Paul Kunitzsch & Tim Smart (2006) "A Short Guide to 254 Star Names and Their Derivations" (2nd Revised Edition, Sky Publishing, Cambridge MA, USA) ["Marfik"].
Although it was originally written as "Marfic" with long s in both Bayer's Uranometria (pronounced "Marfik") and Ideler's (1809) compendium, it appears that in most modern literature since the 19th century (following e.g. Smyth 1881) it has been spelled "Marfik", and that is the modern spelling adopted by Kunitzsch & Smart (2006).
Note that the name "Marsic" is more commonly attributed now to the star Kappa Her (HR 6008).
