This star can also be identified with UCAC3 088-000826, PPMX J002137.2-460533, DENIS-P J002137.3-460532, and (for completeness) Tyc 8023-00715-1 and USNO-B1.0 0439-00003180. An additional photometry reference is Weistrop (1980, AJ, 85, 738W); she also identifies this star as BPM 30128.
The CNS, Hipparcos Input Catalogue, and other sources do not identify this star with CD-46 77, and the identification of HIP 1720 with CD-46 77 in Simbad may be questionable. Based on comparison of coordinates, a possible more likely match for CD-46 77 is the slightly fainter star 2MASS J00213341-4604405, located approximately 66 arcseconds NW from HIP 1720 (at epoch J2000). The estimated magnitude of CD-46 77 in the CoD is 10.0 (which does not help in the cross-matching). HIP 1720 has moved approximately one arcminute since 1875; at that time, the star would have been located at nearly the same declination as 2MASS J00213341-4604405, but more than 70 arcseconds farther east.
